11 - 05 - 2013 Convicted former church bookkeeper escorted to prison
[LS] - The 60-y/o former bookkeeper of Saint Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church of Mifflintown began her prison term in a state correctional facility yesterday after being escorted out of the Juniata County Court of Common Pleas. Mary Zangrilli will serve 2-7 years for stealing over $252,000 from the church over the past 6 years. In pronouncing her sentencing, Judge Kenneth A. Mummah said that Zangrilli's crime was an "egregious" one and "inexcusable" and that although God would forgive her for her actions, Zangrilli also "owes a debt to the commonwealth of Pennsylvania." After being confronted by police investigators, Zangrilli admitted to converting the funds for her personal use, which also included 2 cruises.
