11 - 07 - 2013 Penns Valley voter turnout defies the odds
[CDT] - Almost half the registered voters in one small Penns Valley community picked up ballots and voted this past Tuesday. Out of the top 11 precincts in voter turnout by percentage, 7 are in the Penns Valley Area School District, according to the unofficial election results. About 40% of the districtâs voters cast ballots, compared with just 17 percent for the entire county. It wasnât a coincidence that Penns Valley voters flocked to the polls. They had some of the most anticipated and tightly contested races in the county with a handful of school board seats up for grabs. Residents leaving the polls and volunteers working inside said the school board races confirmed the board races were tops on votersâ minds.
