11 - 08 - 2013 Mifflin Co. Schools could start next year earlier than this year
[LS] - Mifflin Co. school students could be boarding busses for classes one week earlier next year. Last night, the Mifflin Co. School District Board of Directors talked over moving the start of the 2014-15 school year up to Aug. 21--over a full week ahead of Labor Day. The district's "committee-of-the-whole" was questioned about the early start by Board President Walter Harpster. Superintendent James Estep answered by saying that the district was, "trying to align the calendar to get started a little earlier to give students more time for the high-stakes standardized testing that occurs in the spring." If the date change is approved, the last day of school would fall before Memorial Day on May 22, 2015.
