11 - 11 - 2013 Rails-to-trails project possible for Penns Valley residents
[CDT] - Penns Valley residents will get to have a chance once again to express their views of a 27-mile rail trail project that could be running through the area. A series of public workshops & meetings addressing a feasibility study of the miles of abandoned railroad beds that could be transformed into trails is set for 7pm Nov. 19 at the Old Gregg School in Spring Mills. Gregg Twp. supervisors, with the help of Centre Co. planners and others, have been studying the feasibility of gaining access to the rail beds along 27 miles to create a public trail. To do so, officials need the support of property owners on whose land the beds lie. According to offiicials, the abandoned railroad bed was originally chartered in 1853 as the Lewisburg, Centre and Spruce Creek Railroad.
