11 - 12 - 2013 Prolonged downtown State College project could start this month
Construction on the long-awaited Fraser Centre, in State College, could begin as soon as this month and a national hotel chain has been added to the project. Developer Jack Kay, president and CEO of Susquehanna Real Estate, told the State College Borough Council last night at their work session that once work begins, the project would be completed within 22 months. Kay said financing for the Fraser Centre has been secured and all that's left is to win approval from the council. By May 20, Kay will request zoning modifications that will allow the project, which has been stagnant for years, to move forward. Penn State pulled its commitment to become a tenant more than a year ago causing additional delays. The original concept proposed a movie theater which was eventually cancelled. Kay could not reveal the name of the hotel or any of the retailers who have signed on.
