11 - 13 - 2013 Accused child molester convicted after rejecting plea deal
[LS] - Rejecting a plea deal & choosing to represent himself, 49-y/o Patrick L. Cook was not able to defend himself to a Mifflin Co. jury of charges that he molested 2 juvenile girls. After only 45 minutes of deliberation, he was delivered a guilty verdict on all 12 counts that ranged from aggrivated indecent assault to the corruption of minors. Attorney Matthew A. Sembach, who stood by as standby council, tried requesting to represent Cook, but President Judge Timothy S. Searer denied it saying Cook made the choice to defend himself after going through 4 different attorneys with his case. Cook now faces stiffer sentencing after rejecting that plea deal.
