11 - 14 - 2013 Fire displaces Spring Mills family of 9 yesterday
[CDT] - A Centre Co. family is homeless after a fire destroyed the home where all 9 lived at the foot of Brush Mountain near the village of Spring Mills yesterday afternoon. No one in the family of Nate and Sarah Haupt, who lived with their 7 children, were injured in the blaze, which began shortly after 2pm on Ayva Lane, off Brush Mountain Rd. Neighbors spotted smoke and called 911 while the family was away from the home. By the time firefighters arrived, flames were pouring from the dwelling & emergency crews said they could see the billowing smoke from as far away as Millheim as they were arriving to fight the blaze. The family dog died in the fire, but the other animals, that included 2 cows & a pony, that were outside grazing in a field in front of the property, were not injured. Sarah Hauptâs father, Glen Jackson, said several of his young grandchildren cried because their Bibles were destroyed in the fire.
