11 - 18 - 2013 Joining ceremony held for Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital
[LS] - Friday morning, a crowd of about 100 were on hand to formally recognize & introduce the community to the newly-joined Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital. The joining comes after months of planning & obtaining proper authorization in merging Geisinger Health System and Lewistown Hospital. That merger officially took place on Oct. 28. Kay Hamilton, the Lewistown Hospital president & CEO, called the merger a success after a 2 1/2 year investigation about joining a larger health care facility. Hamilton said that in the face of opposition the board of directors, "set out to ensure the survival of this hospital, resulting in this ceremony here today." After a logo & signage change, a $36 million update to the emergency and imaging departments will begin & last over the next 2 years.
