11 - 20 - 2013 J.-Co. Commissioners distribute Marcellus Shale funds
[LS] - A distribution plan for $50,000 of Marcellus Shale Open Space Funds was passed by the Juniata County Commissioners yesterday after a group of township representatives met a few weeks ago to collect ideas for how to distribute the monies. The revenue, which was received from 2012-2013, may be used for planning, acquisition, development, rehabilitation and repair of outside spaces. Commissioner Teresa O'Neal recommended modifying the plan to include farmland preservation saying that the program is vital to open spaces. She said this was voted as the highest priority by residents 4 years ago when a comprehensive plan was adopted. The commissioners chose instead to go ahead with the original distribution plan after O'Neal's motion failed for lack of a second.
