11 - 26 - 2013 Loss of retiree healthcare results in lockout of Penelec workers
[LS] - Healthcare issues have caused a stalemate in the negotiations between the UWUA Local 180 & First Energy, the parent company of Penelec. Local Penelec workers were holding signs yesterday demonstrating their displeasure in the situation. Workers are currently locked out while the company tries to reach an agreement with the union after the union rejected First Energy's "last, best and final contract" offer. Union member, David Bilek, told the Lewistown Sentinel that "Retiree health care is as basic as it gets." He added that, "People have dedicated their working lives and careers to the company. We are here to work, we want to work, but they won't let us during negotiations."
