12 - 02 - 2013 MCSD introduces new learning initiatives
[LS] - The Mifflin Co. School District recently unveiled a couple of new initiatives that kicked off at the beginning of this current school year. Alpha Program and Mifflin County Online are giving students an opportunity to pursue non-traditional education while remaining enrolled in the school district. Students who are in 7th-12 grades are served by the Alpha Program, which offers "blended learning"--combining traditional education through brick-and-mortar schools with online lessons and direct instruction. Alpha Program administrator, Christina Short, told the Lewistown Sentinel that the program works with families to develop educational plans to fit the needs of each student and meet district requirements for core classes and electives. Likewise, Mifflin County Online, offers online education customized for the needs of individual students but is targeted more for the needs of students in grades K-6.
