12 - 20 - 2013 Man shot by police ruled unfit to stand trial
[LS] - A Lewistown man who allegedly said he wanted to "start a revolution" has been not guilty by reason of insanity. Yesterday, Senior Judge Rick Williams declared that 42-y/o Leroy B. Kanagy was unfit to stand trial for charges on aggravated assault and other related offenses. Kanagy was apprehended by Lewistown Police Department in Feb. of 2012 after a traffic stop where they attempted to serve him a warrant for a probation violation. That resulted in an altercation with police where they unsuccessfully attempted to subdue Kanagy by using a Taser several times. When Kanagy charged Officer William Roberts, Jr., he shot Kanagy twice out of fear for his life. Police later learned Kanagy was on his way to Harrisburg to buy weapons he intended to use on police.
