01 - 09 - 2014 Arctic cold causes frozen/broken pipes in PSU buildings
[CDT[ - The bone-chilling weather kept plumbers busy all over the Juniata Valley, and it also burst some pipes and created some chilly moments yesterday at Penn State. A spokeswoman for PSU, Lisa Powers, said that damage estimates were not immediately available as crews were still in the process of cleaning up and evaluating what happened. One location that was affected was the Penn State/Berkey Creamery, where a sprinkler pipe froze & broke because of a lack of heat in the building. A technician found a fan coil unit was not on and not working, and filters became clogged in a vestibule on the sales floor of the building. The sales floor of the Creamery and the testing laboratory were flooded, and water had gotten into the elevator shaft.
