01 - 10 - 2014 Macys reorganization will not affect State College location
[CDT] - This week, Macy's announced that the national retailer would be downsizing and closing stores around the country in an effort to save $100 million annually, starting this year, according to the store. However, a company spokesman said that does not include the Macy’s at the Nittany Mall in State College. Macy’s said it would cut 2,500 jobs nationwide in addition to closing stores and reorganizing operations. That would leave the store with about 175,000 employees. Jim Sluzewski, senior vice president of corporate communications and external affairs, told the CDT that “None of the 5 stores closing are in PA.” The announcement also comes after a healthy holiday operating season at Macy’s in which sales rose 4.3 percent in November and December.
