01 - 13 - 2014 Local residents hear pros & cons of windmlls on mountain tops
[LS] - Friday night, residents of Mifflin & Huntingdon Counties were given some explanations on why placing windmill atop Jacks Mountain & Stone Mountain would be a good idea. The 200 or so gathered heard from 4 individuals on the various perspectives of windmills at the Locust Grove Mennonite Church auditorium. Laura Jackson, president of Save Our Allegheny Ridges, reponded to one Menno Twp. resident who was concerned about the impact the township supervisors would have if they voted against having the windmills placed there. Jackson replied by saying that all the supervisors can do is pass ordinances that the companies have to follow, because in PA it is illegal for a township or county to say "no" to a legitimate company that wants to build wind turbines. It was stressed at the meeting that no plans have been finalized as more studies are required to "make sure we are making the best decisions for the mountain."
