01 - 17 - 2014 MCSD starts initial planning for next budget year
[LS] - Healthcare & pension costs were the primary concerns in planning the 2014-15 budget for the Mifflin Co. School District Board of Directors last night at their workshop meeting. A spending plan that totals $69.6 million, & allows for a tax increase of no more than 2.5 mills, was presented by the district's chief financial officer, Sean Daubert. James Estep, the district superintendent, added this may not be what the board passes this summer. He said that, "The fact that we have to put a budget out right now is due to state mandates" so if the public sees a rise in taxes, "it doesn't mean it will actually turn out that way."
