01 - 22 - 2014 Winter weather woes continue this week
[CDT] - Although the Juniata Valley did not get the dumping of snow that parts farther east did, the winter weather did prompt PennDOT to drop the speed limit on US 322 in Junata Co. & the arctic temperatures forced area schools to go to a 2-hr. delay this morning. Centre Co. schools were open while Mifflin, Juniata, & Mt. Union schools closed yesterday. This is the second strand of below-zero weather this winter. Earlier in January, temperatures plummeted far below zero, with wind chills as low as minus 35 degrees. A wind chill advisory is in effect until noon today. Dangerously cold wind chills are expected to plummet as low as -15 degrees. Winds are expected up to 15 mph with gusts to 25 mph. Forecasters say that Saturday could see a bit more snow and milder temps, but temperatures Sunday and through the early next week arenât expected to reach 20 degrees.
