01 - 29 - 2014 Warm shelters opened in Juniata Co. for needy families
[LS] - The past several Tuesdays have been days that another arctic wave of polar temperatures has spread across the Juniata Valley. As another wave of the bitter cold settled in yesterday, locations designated as "warm shelter places" were opened in Juniata Co. The Juniata County Commissioners made these places available for individuals or families within the county that are experiencing problems staying warm. Commissioner Teresa O'Neal, in making the announcement said, "Because of this extreme cold, we need to recognize there are some individuals who may, for whatever reason, not be able to heat their homes adequately." The locations are at the Fayette Lions Den in McAlisterville, Four Seasons Senior Center in Mifflintown, the McAlisterville Senior Center, & the Richfield Senior Community Center. We've also been informed that in Mifflin Co., the Derry Township Senior Center will be closed until further notice due to frozen sewer lines. Residents can call the Derry Township office with any questions or for more information at 248-8151.
