02 - 13 - 2014 RiverFEST gets a big make-over for 2014
[LS] - Increasing costs & decreasing support were the 2 main factors behind the decision by the Juniata River Valley Visitors Bureau to end its part in the organiztion of the annual RiverFEST event. Jim Tunall, the bureau's Executive Director, told the Lewistown Sentinel that, "We realized that we were creating a revenue stream basically for the benefit of out of town vendors. That contradicts the mission of the partnering agency in the event - our local Chamber of Commerce." Instead, the Embassy Theater's "Let Freedom Ring Fourth of July Concert" on July 6 will be the date reserved for the annual fireworks display & the annual Juniata RiverFEST Idol Competition will be renamed as The River Valley Idol Competition and will continue under the direction of local artist Chris Ruble. The Friends of the Embassy Theatre and the Mifflin-Juniata Arts Council will also assist in help with promoting & organizing the event.
