02 - 24 - 2014 Lewistown Police staying on top of common Internet scams
[LS] - Lewistown Borough Police have been digging into several scams that have plagued local residents & are working on ways to identify them. Chief William Herkert, along with detectives Jeromy Poff and Lisa Bollinger, are focusing in on identity theft that is prevelant on the Internet. Bollinger told The Lewistown Sentinel that, "Most of the scams are centered around pre-paid credit or debit cards, also known as Green Dot cards." Detective Poff said one of the most common "involves someone calling you to tell you there is a warrant out for your arrest." Many of the callers seem cretible since they know personal details. Police have tips on how to protect against these scams & encourage residents to contact them if they come across anything suspicious.
