03 - 12 - 2014 Mifflinburg School students to get longer bus ride next fall
[DI] - Facing a $1.3 million deficit in its preliminary 2014-15 budget of about $28 million, the Mifflinburg Area School District begins a staggered busing schedule which should save $155,000 per year but it will create over hour-long trips for some students. By August, students in grades 6-12 will be in buses by 6:45am and in class from 7:45am-2:45pm. Kindergarten students through the 5th grade will be in buses by 7:45am and in class from 8:45am-3:30pm. Superintendent Dan Lichtel said the 2-tier schedule using fewer buses making more runs means that the new schedule would make for about an 8-hour day for students.
