04 - 07 - 2014 Penns Valley goes up-STrEAM with education initiative
[CDT] - The Penns Valley Conservation Association has one-upped an education program that focuses on science, technology, engineering and math. They have taken the concept of the STEM and STEAM nationwide education initiatives & have come up with the STrEAM Initiative — representing science, technology, riparian, engineering, arts and math. The Executive Director Andrea Ferich told the CDT that the Association has taken the concept a step further with a play on words to enhance its community-based education programs, working with teachers to provide hands-on science activities for students. STrEAM is an internship-like program that aims to give Penns Valley students practical experience in natural science and agriculture that also includes the riparian environment of the Upper Penns Creek watershed. Ferich said that, “We’re making sure the Penns Valley area’s cultural and natural heritage is passed on to future generations.”
