04 - 28 - 2014 Early Sunday fire in Sunbury displaces 7 victims
[DI] - A 2-alarm fire in Sunbury has left 7 people without homes & resulted in a firefighter having to be treated for dehydration early Sunday morning. An estimated loss of $150,000 was sustained when 2 homes caught fire as 50 volunteers responded to the scene. Sunbury Fire Chief Ken Kipple told The Daily Item that crews faced heavy smoke when they reached the scene and itâs believed the fire started in an unoccupied bedroom in the downstairs apartment. It quickly spread to an adjoining duplex along Fairmount Ave. Both buildings were occupied at the time, but the 7 people safely escaped the burning structures. It took firefighters about 30 minutes to bring the blaze under control.
